Love Rowing Project has funded All-Aboard to start up a rowing after-school club for people with visual impairments. From 21st April 2023 All-Aboard will be offering a Friday night Visual Impairment (VI) friendly rowing session for 11-18 years old.
The sessions will run every Friday (term-time only) from 21st April to October at 5.00pm to 7.00pm. Sessions cost £6 per person. No rowing experience is required.
The sessions will be delivered in Trinity Rowing boats. These are light weight white plastic boats which are used regularly by young people. Each Trinity boat will have a instructor / cox who steers the boat and there is room for 2 participants plus 2 sighted volunteers. As rowers skill level improve the ratio of participant:volunteer support can increase. There are 3 trinities so plenty room for many youth people to get involved and try rowing. A instructor will be leading the session to teach rowing in a fun, safe and friendly environment.
There will be a Meeter & Greeter who will welcome the rowers, provide them with a buoyancy aid and introduce them to the rest of the group. Volunteer will be more than happy to assist you. There are lockers to store any personal belongings and there are small bags onboard to keep any guidance canes safe and with the owner at all times.
